Whilst performing flight TG-477 from Bangkok to Brisbane, the aircraft departed Bangkok runway 19L and was on route at FL330 approx. 50nm South East of Ho Ch Minh City when the crew turned back due to adverse engine vibrations about 2 hours 10 minutes into the flight. Passengers later reported that early into the flight a rhythmic and re-occurring vibration was felt throughout the airframe. A company engineer was on the flight whom was seen observing the number two engines multiple times before entering the cockpit where he stayed for considerable time.
